Sologne Forest

The Sologne forest forms part of the UNESCO-listed Loire Valley - a cultural landscape recognised for its natural beauty, heritage, and biodiversity. Covering nearly 500,000 hectares, the forests of Sologne define the region, with oak, pine and chestnut trees blanketing more than three-quarters of the landscape. These woodlands are rich in biodiversity, providing a haven for deer, wild boar, roe deer, pheasant, and duck. Once home to the Gauls, Romans, and Franks, the Sologne later became a royal hunting ground in the Middle Ages - a legacy still felt in its quiet grandeur and untamed character.

Keep an eye out for woodlarks, kites, bats, amphibians, and nearly 50 species of butterfly as you explore the Estate's trails.

A sanctuary for wildlife

We are committed to preserving the Estate's biodiversity and protecting its delicate ecosystems. Through sustainable land management practices and habitat preservation efforts, we ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the wonders of nature on the estate.

The proximity of Les Bordes Estate to the Domaine de Chambord, a site of European importance for the conservation of ospreys, makes it a vital habitat for these majestic birds.

One of the icons of the Loire Valley region is the stag. The Estate is home to a number of deer, and it is highly likely that you will spot one or two every day. A truly majestic sight and sound to behold when you're here is what's known as the Brame du Cerf. This refers to the period between mid-September and mid-October when the stags begin to ruck. In the region this signifies the beginning of Autumn.
