Pioneering Wellness at Six Senses Loire Valley with Anna Bjürstam
May 24, 2024
The meaning of wellness at Six Senses
Back in 2012, when Six Senses approached Anna Bjürstam to transform the brand from a spa and hotel group into a holistic wellness experience, she couldn’t have anticipated its evolution into a global community focused on well-being from the inside out.
“We started with wellness from an innate quest of actually doing good and wanting to do wellness way before everyone else tapped into it,” she explains.
While the term “wellness” is now widely used, what sets Six Senses apart is their decade-long commitment to working with health experts to enhance the lives of guests and residents on a profound level. Each Six Senses wellness center is designed with input from pioneers in the field, ensuring world-class facilities that improve sleep, longevity, gut health, functional health, and more.
Going the Extra Mile with Wellness
“We’ve managed to take wellness beyond the spa and fitness centre.”
At Six Senses, wellness isn’t just an occasional treat; it’s lovingly woven into everyday moments. Each bedroom is scientifically designed to enhance sleep, all food is locally sourced and prepared to optimise health, and even the youngest guests receive wellness education during their stay. The goal is to infuse wellness into everyday life.
The Future of Wellness in Branded Residences
Anna believes we are only scratching the surface of wellness. With the growing health and wellness trend, we will see incredible technological advances to enhance holistic wellness, such as red lights in bathroom mirrors, infrared saunas in homes, and soundscapes and lightscapes to balance circadian rhythms.
People often visit Six Senses hotels and retreats, like the Alma Festival at Six Senses Ibiza, to indulge in unique wellness facilities such as cryotherapy, hyperbaric chambers, and pulse electromagnetic field chairs. The beauty of Six Senses Residences is that residents can enjoy all these wellness amenities without leaving the comfort of their home.
“People want to be healthy, and it’s hard, but when you build it into a residential project, it becomes so much easier”
Longevity and Biohacking at Six Senses Loire Valley
Biohacking and increasing longevity are core features of Six Senses, and the Loire Valley destination is no exception. Six Senses is partnering with a specialized longevity center to offer comprehensive diagnostics for guests and residents, allowing for the development of personalised wellness plans. Available biohacking facilities include cryotherapy, red light therapy, intermittent hypoxia, and pulse electromagnetic field therapy.
“It is up to us whether we age six months per year or two years per year,” Anna emphasises.
Longevity has long been Anna's passion, inspired by wellness pioneer Dr. Alberto Villoldo. Some of her favourite treatments include EMS (electrical muscular stimulation) for quicker muscle rehabilitation and red light therapy, which can improve vision by up to 21% when used three times a week within three hours of waking up.
Longevity is significant in the Loire Valley, where outdoor activities such as long-distance biking and running are popular activities, and at Les Bordes Estate, which features a wide variety of sports and activities. Wellness at this location will focus on recovery and connecting with the stunning natural surroundings of the region.
“Nature has the power to heal and balance your senses, so nature will play a huge role in Six Senses Loire Valley.”
